The Virginia Cliffe Inn
Landmark Legacy
In 1950, James and Margaret Clifton dismantled a landmark 1840 farmhouse and used the materials to build the Virginia Cliffe Inn, modeling it after George Washington’s former military headquarters in Newburgh, NY. After raising their four children, they opened their Georgian-style home as a bed and breakfast in 1997.
Today, the Virginia Cliffe Inn offers thoughtful wedding packages, rental equipment, decorations and five ceremony locations. Couples design their day around scenic backdrops that include the manor home's front porch, expansive front lawn, fragrant rose garden, pavilion and gazebo.
The venue can accommodate up to 250 guests and offers ample parking space for a range of events from rehearsal dinners to luncheons to weddings and receptions. Photo shoots shine among the property's large trees, lush gardens and pond with swans and the idyllic Clifton Cottage makes for comfortable private prep space with a kitchen, living room, three restrooms and a dressing room.

Things To Do

Visit the American Civil War Museum and Richmond National Battlefield Park for a taste of the past. The area’s thriving arts scene is on display at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Richmond Symphony and Virginia Opera and headline-making chefs celebrate Southern comfort food with creative spins on Virginia ham, Brunswick stew and Chesapeake Bay oysters. The city’s distinct blend of old and new reveals itself across historic architecture, boutique shops and eclectic dining in famed neighborhoods such as Carytown and the Fan District.
